Ans- The author recollects how he used to play cricket with his mother in the small gallery of their house. He almost broke his mother’s nose when a nasty hit of the tennis ball with which he played banged on his mother’s nose. The mother’s nose began to bleed.

Ans- Gerrad was a young stage artist, One day he was packing his travelling bag to leave his Cottage. A man, Vincent Charles, holding a revolver in his hand, broke into the cottage. His plan was to kill the mysterious Gerrard and then live as Gerrard himself. It was his trick to elude the police Gerrard outwitted him soon. The said that he too was Wanted by the police who might come any time to arrest him. He suggested that they should escape. He managed to shut him in the cupboard and rang up the police.

Ans- Ramlal had seven children, three Sons and four daughters. Sulekha (Bholi) was the youngest of all her sisters. She was pretty and fair at her birth. But the attack of smallpox affected her entire body. Her whole body was permanently disfigured by deep pockmarks, All the other children of Ramlal were good-looking healthy and strong, Ramlal had no difficulty in meeting them but he was worried for Bhali, who would marry her. Moreover, she was a stammerer too. She was dull and also not intelligent. Bholi’s father was rightly upset for Boll, but in the end, he supported Bhali’s decision.

Ans- One night during the monsoons a scorpion entered the darkroom and stung the poet’s mother, She writhed with pain. The peasants Came like Swarms of flies, bussing the name of God. They could not find the evil one. They prayed to God to make the Scorpion sit still So that it’s poison did not move in the mother’s body. They helped that her Suffering in this life would prove a blessing in many ways.
But the poet’s father was guided by reason. He tried hard to provide relief to the mother. A holy man performed puja to tame poison, The mother thanked God for Sparing her Children. The poet presents a picture of Indian village life. The peasants are Simple-hearted and Superstitious people. They have blind faith in sins, rebirth and evils. They trust fate and God more than active Service.

(a) What made Bholi believe that was being taken to a place better than her home? What does this reflect about her parent’s behaviour? Comment using examples from the story.
Ans- Bholi’s teacher was the first person who showed her respect as an individual. Earlier She was neglected and treated like a dumb cow. But She learnt reading books and got an education under her
teacher’s guidance. She also learnt to be self-confident and self-reliant Now she was able to make her decisions in life and did not let anyone push her into marriage. That day Romlal told his wife to give
Bholi new clothes to wear. She was bathed well, oil was rubbed into her matted hair and combed. Bholi had never been given new clothes to wear. She began to think that School must be a better place than her home.

(b) Interview any 5 households and find out how much units of water they use along with the bill amount. Compare it with the required water counting their family members. Write a report stating how much litres of water is wasted/used unnecessarily by them. Also, motivate them by letting about its importance.
Ans- Estimates vary but on average each person uses about 80-100 gallons of water per day, for indoor homes uses. Are you surprised that the longest use of household water is to flush the toilet and after that, to take shower and bath? That is why, in these days of water conservation, we are starting to see toilets and showers that use less water than before. We interview 5 households and some details are given below.
Saw us in the first house which is a family of 4 members. There are 12000 gallons of water used in this family. And a bill of 2800 rupees was made.
Saw us in the second house which is a family of s members. 15000 gallons of water are used in this family. And a bill of 3500 Rupees was made.
Saw us in the third house which is a family of 6 members. 16000 gallons of water have been used in this family And a bill of 4200 rupees was made.
Saw us in the fourth house which is a family of 4 members. These are 14000 gallons of water used in this family And a bill of 3000 rupees was made.
Saw us in the fifth house which is a family of 6 members There are 2200 gallons of water used in this family. And a bill of 4700 rupees was made.
Compared all these houses and found that water is being used properly in our house we are not like other families who wastewater.

(i) Using the toilet as a trash Can –
Representing almost a third of a household’s total indoor consumption, the toilet is the biggest source of water use at home.
(ii) Taking baths and long showers –
Think of it this way the average American. The shower uses 17-2 gallons of water and lasts up to 8 minutes – that’s a lot of water,
(iii) Leaky pipes –
The US News report that an average household can leak more than 10,000 gallons of water per year.
(iv) washing dishes with running water –
instead, fill up your sink with soap and water and let the dishes soak. After a few minutes go ahead and wash them off!
Motivate them by lying about its Importance =
The term “Save Water” urges us to save one of the mother earth’s most significant natural resources – water.
Easy availability of water has made us careless. undermining its significance and resulting in its wastage. Today a normal household wastes thousands of litres of water annually, without realising that it would need years to reproduce the Same quantity through natural processes. Water usage must be optimized to ensure its availability for future generations.
